Reporting Verbs Reporting verbs can be very descriptive, showing the attitude, feeling and stance of the speaker. The following sentences are taken from Chapter 3. Select the strongest reporting verb for the context.

1. Startled, Salvador demanded demanded / askedasked angrily, "What? Lupita's to wear my clothing?"

2. "Sí, an automobile, silly one," he told told / mocked mocked her. "Why should we walk if we can ride?"

3. "Don't look back," Salvador ordered ordered/ told told her sharply.

4. "I wish Mamá had told us to ride a bus," Salvador said.
    "It would cost money we might need later," Lupita replied replied/ warnedwarned.

5. The tall youth hit Salvador in the face with his fist...and pinioned his arms behind his back.

6. Ramon looked looked/ sneered sneered at Salvador and Lupita, "Estupidos, stupid ones."
